Texts by Barbara Engelbach, Wulf Herzogenrath, and Diana Thater

Diana Thater: Keep the Faith was published on the occasion of the artist’s major survey in 2004, which was concurrently exhibited in Germany at the Kunsthalle Bremen and Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen. This bilingual catalogue (English and German) comprehensively documents both presentations of Thater’s installed works in Siegen and Bremen through full color illustrations. The catalogue texts approach the artist’s work from three different perspectives. In her essay, Thater explains her thoughts and concepts pertaining to the works shown in the exhibition and surveys the development of her artistic interests. Barbara Engelbach examines the way the artist deals with video as a medium in the context of the debates on media specificity in the 1960s and 1970s. Wulf Herzogenrath unfolds the prehistory of Thater’s artistic treatment of the projected image in architectural space by presenting similar views of earlier artists working with film and slide projections. Also included is a catalogue raisonné of Thater’s installations and video monitor works.
